After a comfortable cup game last week it was a case of more of the same this week as we took on Fry.  Although it was a home game it actually took place at Fry on a pitch that was considerably smaller than we are used to but would it cause us real problems.

The answer was not really.  One thing this team has in spades is pace and against a team playing a flat back four that is vital.  After only 2 minutes a ball over the top by Sam found Joe one on one with the keeper.  In no mans land the keeper could only watch as the ball sailed over his head. The same combination made it 2:0 a few minutes later this time the finish was in the bottom corner.

Fry were a bit shell shocked but started to find their feet but these days there is a really solid feel about our defence.  Jonah had come in to replace Josh alongside Nathan B and they were both snuffing out most that Fry could throw at us and anything that they couldn’t was mopped up by Ben Beckenbauer (sorry Worsley).

The rest of the half was a bit frustrating as our dominance was spoilt by numerous offside decisions.  Some of them were harsh but most were unnecessary and as a result of the front 4 not paying attention to their position on the field.

Stern words at half time got the focus back and the start of the second half was similar to the first.  This time Joe was the provider for James to finish coolly.  Joe then got his hat trick with another one on one with the keeper.  Sam was the next to get on the score sheet with a trademark thunderbolt from the edge of the box.

With Fry a bit dispirited Joe made it 6:0 with a left foot shot that should have been saved but trickled into the net.  I think we were probably expecting a cricket score after this but it didn’t materialise.  Maybe because it was “job done” we let Fry play and for the last 15minutes they had most of the game.  There were no real alarms but we struggled to get out of our half and the gap between our defence and attack meant that we launched few attacks and the game fizzled out.

Finally I mentioned last week that our keepers had nothing really to do.  This week they both had a couple of real saves to make which they did expertly to keep the sheet clean.

Next week it is back to the league against Keynsham.  We will have benefited from these cup games but we will be tested and we will have to be up for it.
