BSUFC Goal Scorers: Sam Wentland
(2), Nathan Redmore(2) ,James Skelton, Joe Morrell |
It was a trip into the unknown this
week physically and football wise with a trip to near Stroud
to play in the GFA cup against Whiteshill Under 12’s. The
question was going to be whether our football could overcome
their strength and height.
We started off well and were competing
well and even had a bit of pressure. However after 5
minutes we gave away a free kick in a dangerous area. Being
a year older their player was able to send the ball high
into the net giving Tom no chance. There was a danger that
heads would drop and we would go further behind but not this
week. Our greater ability started to tell and we put
pressure on the Whiteshill goal. We got the goal we
deserved when Sam scored a fantastic header. It got even
better shortly afterwards when Sam scored once again. There
was no stopping us now and Nathan Redmore was next on the
score sheet to leave it 3:1 at half time
The second half was pretty much 1 way
traffic with us dominating. The defence of Jonah, Ben and
Nathan Blackwell didn’t let much past and Tom mopped
anything up that did get through. This allowed the midfield
and attack to apply the pressure which saw us score 3 more
goals. Nathan got his second, James picked up one as did
Joe who latched onto a fantastic through ball from James.
It could have been but for some great goalkeeping and a
sloping goalmouth that saw a couple of goal bound efforts
roll back down the slope.
So 6:1 it was. A great performance all
round. We learned a lot today especially how to deal with a
fussy ref which has led to some of the boys thinking about
changing their names to “Mine” or “I’ve Got” !!!!
