Highridge 1

6 Bradley Stoke United
BSUFC Goal Scorers: Seymour (3), Newbery, Vincent, Abbott

Following back to back defeats we embarked on a trek across town to a potentially tricky match against third placed Highridge. As it transpired the boys produced the best performance of certainly this season and probably last as well in winning comprehensively by six goals to one.

We decided to stay with three at the back following the return of Matt Baker and because of a few late arrivals switched the team slightly , pushing James Winward up front to partner Dan and starting Sam on the right.

Right from kick off we seemed more determined than of late and the midfield really worked hard. The passing was excellent , with James Page and Dan Abbott showing great composure and skill on the ball and hitting some great passes. Within the opening minutes the first chance was created when a great cross by Josh was almost headed in by James W. We continued to pass the ball around quickly and James W was unlucky on a few occasions at the far post after more good work down the left . The opening goal came after the ball was worked across into Dans path and he got his volleyed shot away quickly to bury the chance into the bottom corner.

Shortly afterwards we were two up when Josh Seymour poked home at the left post after good work down the right flank by James W . We were completely dominating possession and passing the ball quickly, but also we worked hard to get the ball back when we lost it, so it was disappointing to concede a sloppy goal following a hopeful throughball right down the middle.

We responded well and created a host of chances , with Josh again arriving at the far post just in time for his second and then Matt Newbery hitting a ferocious shot high into the net for a four one halftime lead.

The second half continued in the same vein with the passing accurate the movement good and the calmness on the ball starting to come. We created a host of chances in the second half , mostly down the left where James P , Josh and Scott  started to work some nice triangles. Two more goals came in the second half , Josh's hat trick goal a smart finish from the edge of the box and Liam's a typical determined finish from close range. In addition James Page was unlucky with a well hit shot that was tipped onto the crossbar and Liam also hit the bar with an acrobatic attempt .

Defensively Matt Baker and Callum dealt with everything quite comfortably, although we again lost a bit of shape in the last 5 minutes when the game was won.

This performance showed that we are really starting to come together as a team, and was the first time that the passing, the tackling, the movement and the determination had all been excellent in the same match. This game has re-ignited our season and set us up for the two big games starting in two weeks time .

Match Performances

Dan Ellis -  did well when called upon , kicked from hand really well

Matt Baker – knits the entire team together , defended really well ,  one well-timed  tackle inside our penalty area saved a certain goal

Callum Hawkins – defended calmly , distributed well

Joe Alemzadeh – continued to develop his partnership with Josh , enabled our left flank to again be our most potent point of attack .

Arran Moran – unlucky to be on the bench , came on and defended determinedly and passed the ball calmly

Scott Crane – slotted in well at left back , contributed well in defence and attack , almost header in from a corner .

Andy Webb – unselfishly did his job with minimum fuss , won his tackles, got forward more than usual and set up the first goal from the edge of the box

Matt Newbery – took his goal well , almost had another , battled well in the key areas and got forward to great effect

James Page – excellent display of long and short passing , showed what he can do to teams if given time on the ball . Desperately unlucky with a rasping shot onto the underside of the bar .

Josh Seymour – highly productive game , well taken hattrick and continually caused problems with some determined running and good crosses

Sean Fahey – did well when he came on , strong running good determined tackling and good choices of when to run and when to pass

Sam Vankuylenberg – excellent game full of strong running and good passing down the right flank . Unlucky not to score when pushed further forward towards the end of the match

Dan Abbott – strongest performance yet , superb touch and control and a number of very clever passes to set up chances . Gave away a few fouls , which showed an increased physical side to his game that we have been after

James Winward – adapted well to being pushed up front and was a constant menace , getting into lots of great positions . A bit more composure in front of goal and he would have scored three goals in the first half alone .

Liam Vincent – unlucky to start on the bench . Did well when he got on , scored a good goal and hit the bar . Chased down the Highridge defence well and panicked them into rushed clearances
