Last season we enjoyed a
double celebration against today's opponents. In September
last year on a very hot Sunday afternoon we beat Deerswood
away 3-1. Towards the end of last season we played Deerswood
at home and beat them 6-1. However, despite these wins
Deerswood finished in the same position as us in the league
last season. Back to today. Deerswood Yth prior to
this game are 2nd in the table. They have played 4 games,
winning 3 and losing 1. Bradley Stoke are 8th in the league
winning 1 and losing 3.
1st Half
Bradley Stoke kicked off and pushed forward. As the ball was
cleared by Deerswood, Wesley picked up the ball and floated
the ball back into the box, Kye was on hand to slot the ball
over the line. With less than a minute on the clock Bradley
Stoke 1 Deerswood 0.
From the kick off Deerswood broke through shooting just
wide.
As we entered the 5th minute stage both teams were still
looking to set the pattern and the game was scrappy.
Deerswood slowly began to pick up the pace but no goal
scoring chances were being created by either team. .
On 12 minutes Bradley Stoke began to play welll. Passing was
accurate and the team were beginning to play some very good
football. James S was unlucky not to increase the lead
further on 15 minutes after seeing his shot go just
wide.
On 18 minutes Deerswood began again to push and were finally
rewarded with a goal after the defence were put under severe
pressure. Bradley Stoke 1 Deerswood 1.
20 minutes Matt off : Josh on.
Bradley Stoke again
began to push forward and a perfect pass by James S to Kye
saw his shot go just wide. On 29 minutes James S made way
for Matt to return to the match.
On 31 minutes James C worked hard on the wing and finally
released a ball to Kye who again found the back of the net.
Bradley Stoke 2 Deerswood 1.
From this point Bradley
Stoke were on fire and the crowd witnessed the best period
of football this season. The team were running, passing and
winning every loose ball. On 36 minutes James C again linked
up with Kye and Matt. The final shot, by Matt going just
wide.
In the final few minutes of the first half Bradley Stoke
continued to dominate the game and Kye again was unfortunate
not to get a few more goals. As the final whistle went a few
questions were asked. How is the score still 2-1 ? How did
we manage to lift our game so much ? Why can't we play more
like that every week ? Half time Bradley Stoke 2 Deerswood
1.
2nd Half
Deerswood, like us in the
first half kicked off and within 30 seconds had a shot saved
on the line. From this save the ball was kicked up the pitch
and Matt's power shot was pushed wide for Bradley Stokes
first corner of the afternoon.
Deerswood
however began to play the better game and looked very strong
on the break. On 7 minutes they went very close and the
corner that followed the ball was just headed over the
crossbar.
Within 3
minutes Deerswood were again pushing forward but the Bradley
Stoke defence stood tall. On 14 minutes Ollie picked up a
loose ball in midfield and shot high towards the goal. The
keeper just managed to save the shot as it floated down
towards goal.
On 15 minutes a
great run down the wing by Kye found James S but his
shot went just wide.
With 17 minutes
on the clock Bradley Stoke were under real pressure at the
back. Deerswood hit the bar and saw several shots cleared
off the line as a goalmouth scramble took place. As the ball
was cleared finally up the park, Matt again was unlucky to
see his shot go wide.
Both sides
continued to play at a very fast pace and you could
begin to see some tired legs.
One of Deerswood's
strengths was their throw ins which were played more like a
corner. On 24 minutes a throw in into the box found a
Deerswood player who rattled the ball into the net. Bradley
Stoke 2 Deerswood 2.
From the kick off the ball was forced up to Matt who saw his
shot saved off the line.
On 29 minutes Deerswood were awarded another corner. A good
deep cross into the middle of the packed defence found a
Deerswood player who converted the ball into the back of the
net. Bradley Stoke 2 Deerswood 3.
Within 3 minutes
Deerswood were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. In
a 'Beckham' style shot the ball rose over the wall into the
top corner of the net. A very good well taken freekick that
pushed the score line even more away from Bradley Stoke.
Bradley Stoke 2 Deerswood 4.
32 minutes Ollie off :
Josh on.
As the minutes ticked by
both teams made the occasional break and on 38 minutes a
great build up by Matt, Kye and James S saw the ball finally
rest at Kye's feet as he converted his hat trick for the day
and Bradley Stoke's 3rd. Bradley Stoke 3 Deerswood 4.
On 39 minutes, still
believing that Bradley Stoke could salvage a point we were
awarded a corner. The whole team made their way into the box
including Fraser. The ball was delivered perfectly by James
C but we just could not get that final ball. The final
whistle sounded in what can only be described as a 'very odd
game of football'. The linesman from Deerswood made the
comment, " I can't believe your team have only one won
game this season, they look a really good, capable
team". Take heart lads at times today you looked awesome
and it will not be long before results will begin to go our
way. Bradley Stoke 3 Deerswood 4.
